What happened to the T-shirts?

February 26th, 2010 No comments »

Well, let’s say they are living a much better life now with their owners.

Here’s one brave soul sporting the ubber-sexy shirt – Queenie, my darling fellow-Torontonian! Picture attached, but may be removed upon Queenie’s request in the very near future. More shirt wearerers will be embarassed in this post very shortly. Stay tuned!

Give it up for Queenie from Toronto, proudly sporting a hireadi.com top!

I have been running free-range (just like their sheep and other adorable animal stock) in breath-taking New Zealand since October 23rd, 2009.

Have I done much here career wise? Well, i tried … a lot of local employers know that I’ve tried. But apparently it is illegal here to work without a visa! Reuters states that New Zealand is the least corrupt nation in the entire world. After multiple shameless attempts to break the system, I have accepted it and waited patiently for my visa to arrive.

To pass the time, I have gladly volunteered my time and passion for a better world to New Zealand Aids Foundation (NZAF). The rest of my time went to TradeMe (www.trademe.co.nz), eBay, and discovery of North Island.

On a summary, mid-January, NZ morning “my baby” finally showed up in my inbox. Oh boy, was I ever so thrilled! No more being a lady of leisure, no more living in fear of borrowing a cent more from my bank. I eagerly and immediately began the job hunting process all over again – search for an appropriate target/employer, find the target, and fire away personal material at them (personalized cover letter, resume, a follow-up phone call). I became so efficient at this process that within two weeks, I have applied to over 30 jobs – that’s some 30 e-mails, cover letters, resume, and all personalized and tweaked according to the given job requirements. I confess that some of these were not suitable for me, and most of them were a “No”.  BUT …

I took up a contract position at Simtics (www.simtics.com), a software development company, where I hold the position of a Software Tester. My main duties include editing various texts, testing cases/scripts, logging issues, and making sure the final product looks a.o.k (yes, I do take better care of editing working material than my blog)! And, if you were wondering, I do matter-of-factly enjoy this job. The working crew is pretty “chill”, even though we work on a very tight schedule and sometimes pull off 12-15 hr working days or come in on the weekend. (If you are from the BBB … forget what you just read).

What happens after this contract is up?

I am planning to resume the hunt by applying to such admirable organizations as Amnesty International, New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation (NZBCF), Cancer Society of NZ and WWF. Stayed tuned, or not, to see if I succeed. Crossing fingers for the latter.

Adi

An overdue check in

October 17th, 2009 No comments »

This is certainly an overdue entry. What happened?

Well, in short, I decided to flow into Beijing, China, do a post at a local website, www.thebeijinger.com, with my hireadi.com details. I received a couple of replies straight away with job offers and picked the one that was the most appropriate for my educational background. I started working at ClairePR (www.ClairePR.com).

At ClairePR I carried the fancy title of the Program Coordinator. I passed my time there in between editing documents, creating and updating client/order spreadsheets, calling clients and trying to get them to work with us. As most of the clients were international organizations ( i cannot really say more than this due to a confidentiality waiver I have signed), I got to juggle my language knowledge quite a bit. All in all, my short working experience there has not been as peachy as I hoped it to be, but it has taught me more than a whole year at uni ever could.

Now, I work part time at Vance Info (www.vanceinfo.com). Not sure what my title really is, but I get to work with cellphones – perform software testing, localization and translation (English – Romanian, and sometimes Russian). I love this place. I get to play with cellphones, amidst a sea of foreigners from all over the world!

But, I believe my short time in Beijing is over for now. This Thursday I am heading towards Auckland, New Zealand. Some call NZ the place where God would live, if he existed. I am absolutely anxious to get there. I will be looking forward to finding out what the job market can offer me there. If it can offer both personal and professional growth, then the rest of the world will have to wait up, because as far as falling in love by looking at NZ photos goes, I am head over heels at the moment.

I need to make some cheap hireadi.com shirts while I am still in China, don’t I? This weekend is all about spending my hard earned money the past 2 months.

As the Beijingers say – ZaiJian!

Shipping T-shirts!

August 15th, 2009 No comments »

I have shipped a saucy hireADI.com T-Shirt to Warren M. in Australia and another, adorable one to Madalena S. in Portugal. Here are the photos of the shirts. I hope they fit! And I also hope you know that you have to send me a snap of you proudly wearing them ;)

T-shirt’s first day in town.

August 1st, 2009 No comments »

I have finally bought an ink printer, some press-on paper, some white shirts and came out with not so bad looking home-made T-Shirts. Me and Xin decided to go out into town today to visit a local gallery around the Ossington and Dundas area. So I put on my shirt and we went to town.

Conveniently enough the Caribana fest and, thus, insane crowds were not far off. With plenty of stares, some random fans, and some “Hire you for what?” questions, the T-Shirt received plenty of attention on its first day out. I will keep on wearing my shirt (washed of course), ask my friends to do the same in the near future, and start on the flyer and video step. Stay tuned!

hireADI is born (almost) … now what?

Day 1 of hireADI.com !

Ok, well not really – I am still polishing the website and the blog. But, as you read this over your tea and biscuits, thinking of offering me a job of course, I will tell you what is to come from this very soon.

To begin, the website and this blog are here to say “Hi. I’m Adi. I would like one job, please. Anywhere in the world, please.” However, surely telling all my family and friends to check out my labour of love and creativity will not land me many employment offers. I need to market this whole project and this is my plan:

Step 1: Create flyers and post them all over Toronto. Possibly beg my international, beautiful, intellectual, caring friends to post a bunch of flyers around the Business and Entertainment districts of their cities. You may see these on your local Billboards’ or your BMW’s, Mercedes’, Rolls-Royce’s, Ferrari’s windshield.

Step 2: Wear hireADI.com shirts wherever I go. And enforce or ask nicely my friends to do so as well. Here are some of the shirts you may see walking around Toronto.

Step 3: YouTube video of me, wearing the Step 2 shirt, explaining to the employer community why they should drop what they are doing and send an offer my way.

Step 4: Continue wearing the shirt and keeping up the poster count, while waiting for offers to roll in.

Step 5: If the above steps fail, return to the conventional method of finding a great job or internship or whatever else will keep me happy and away from financial debt.

As I come close to finishing this entry, I cannot stop thinking about that guy on the corner of Yonge and Dundas who keeps on calling out for Jesus. I hope my saviour will come in a form of an amazing employer with a hard-to-resist offer.

Family, friends, acquaintances and guests … as I embark on this mini-adventure-project, do not mock me, but ask me for a hireADI.com shirt instead! Free delivery, great quality, eternal appreciation and a beer! ;)

Sincerely,

Adi
